•Discontinue the use of any alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) products such as those containing glycolic or lactic acid as well as salicylic acid, retinoids (e.g., Retin-A, Renova, Differin, Tazorac), and topical acne treatments like benzoyl peroxide at least two weeks prior to your session. When in doubt, stop use and discuss with your provider during your appointment.

•Do not take antibiotics or any photosensitizing medications during the course of laser treatment.

•Avoid blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, or certain supplements for several days prior to treatment, unless prescribed by your physician. Always consult your doctor before stopping any medication.

•The treatment area should be shaved 1 to 2 days before your laser hair removal session.

•Avoid sun exposure for a minimum of three weeks before treatment, including tanning beds. Laser treatments are not advised on tanned skin. If you’ve recently tanned, please wait until the tan has fully faded.

•Stop using artificial tanning products (self-tanners, sprays, etc.) at least two weeks prior to treatment.

•Use sunscreen daily (SPF 30 or higher) on any area exposed to the sun during the treatment course.

•Do not wax, pluck, or tweeze any hair in the treatment area during the course of your laser treatments. Shaving is the only approved method of hair removal during this time.

•If you have a history of herpes or cold sores, take an oral antiviral (e.g., Zovirax or Famvir) one day before your session. Laser heat may trigger an outbreak. Speak with your doctor if you need a prescription.

•Laser safety goggles must be worn at all times during the procedure.

•If you are taking any hormone-related or antidepressant medications, please inform your technician before your session.

•Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning for at least three weeks after your laser treatment. Always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher containing zinc oxide when going outdoors.

•Maintain extra hygiene at home as the treated area may be more sensitive.

•Redness and swelling around the follicles or treated area is normal and may last from 15 minutes to a few hours.

•To reduce inflammation, you may apply Hydrocortisone 1% or a topical antibiotic cream.

•If scabbing, pustules, or folliculitis occur, apply Hydrocortisone 1% or an antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin or Polypore twice daily for 2–3 days. Contact our office immediately if symptoms worsen.

•Do not pluck, wax, or tweeze the treated hairs between sessions.

•Do not pick or scratch at any scabs that form, as this may interfere with proper healing.

•If the facial area was treated, makeup must be completely removed before the procedure and can be reapplied the day after treatment.

•Avoid touching, rubbing, or scratching the treated area.

•Treated hairs will begin to shed gradually over 10–20 days following the session.
